My wife has been patiently waiting for me to start building furniture for our TV/media room. This involves building a TV stand, two Victorian inspired sliding door bookcases plus a new Victorian shell for our fireplace. Our TV has been sitting on a piece of furniture from my daughters room for about a year now, so the TV stand comes first. The TV stand and bookcases will be out of solid walnut. The new fireplace mantel will be out of quarter sawn white oak.
The TV stand is going to have Ogee Bracket feet. Its size will be five feet by sixteen inches wide by 36″high. The top is actually 66″ inches long . I plan on incorporating some purple heart in this project also. Purple heart and Walnut really compliment each other. I am choosing to use heart wood in the walnut when I deem it appropriate. Walnut is naturally dark brown, but it can also exhibit beautiful blond heartwood . Shown below are the Bracket feet in roughed out form. Here you can see the blonde heartwood.
In the next post I will build the support frame and construct the various panels needed and also glue up the top.
