Turning my own porch newel posts – blog post 3

Well next week is the forth of July, middle of the year and our porch is still without railing. I am very close to having all the newel posts made. I figure the porch will take 36, then the stairs another 10 or so.

Here is 14 of them primed and painted by my wonderful Sharon.

Here are 16  more that I finished turning. I will set up the flute jig tomorrow and rout all the flutes so they can get painted also.

I have also had a lot of practice sharpening /keeping my chisels sharp for this project. It only takes two chisels to turn these posts. A spindle gouge and a parting tool.

I also am excited about my first video. My brother Mike is helping me produce videos that I will put on You Tube for my blog . The first video will start by showing me turning a post, fluting it then going  through the steps that complete our porch railing.

Look for it  soon.
